Eagles Finish Regular Season with 6-1 Victory at Northern Illinois

DeKALB, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team finished the 2013-14 campaign on a winning note, defeating Northern Illinois University Saturday, April 19. The Eagles (13-8, 6-2 MAC) clinched a top-three seed in the Mid-American Conference Championships, April 25-27.

Nino Mebuke and Klara Supejova completed the MAC campaign with an unblemished 8-0 record at No. 1-doubles, defeating Nelle Youel and Arantza De la Torre, 8-2. Diana Davitaia and Maria Paula Ribero saw an 8-1  victory versus Cristina Alvarez and Maria Rozo. Daphne Friedrichs and Mariya Toncheva fell to Haley Dekkinga and Stephanie McDonald, 8-7, at the No. 3-spot as EMU took the doubles point.
 
Supejova came out to take on Youel at No. 1 singles and fell, 6-1, 6-2, while Davitaia finished the conference season with a perfect 8-0 record at No. 2-singles following a 6-1, 6-2 victory versus Alvarez. At No. 3, Mebuke closed on the season by defeating Dekkinga, 6-1, 6-2, and Toncheva defeated De La Torre without dropping a game at No. 4. Friedrichs saw a three set victory against Mary Malkin, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0, and Ribero won her No. 6 singles match, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0.

"We played solid tennis today," said Head Coach Ryan Ray. "NIU fought hard as this was their season finale. We need to work on a few things this week to make a strong run through the tournament next weekend."
 
The Eagles will compete in the 2014 MAC Women's Tennis Championships next weekend, April 25-27. The tournament will be held in Oxford, Ohio at the Miami University's home courts. Eastern clinched the No. 3 seed and will take on Bowling Green State University Friday, April 25, at 2 p.m.
