EMU hosted a bbq at University House to celebrate

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University President Susan Martin officially introduced newly appointed Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Heather Lyke and her family to the EMU athletic coaches, staff, the AD search committee and the EMU Board of Regents and Executive Council Thursday, Aug. 22, at the University House. The event featured many faces from across Eastern's campus and history, including E-Club Hall of Fame inductees Lucky Parker and Claudia Wasik.

With dinner prepared for all in attendance the Eastern community was able to meet and enjoy the company of Lyke, her husband, Dave Catalano, and their children Elle, Sophie and Eli as she wrapped up her first month as the head of EMU's Department of Athletics.

Parker graduated from EMU in 1958 and went on to serve the university's athletic department as a coach and athletic director from 1976 until her retirement in 1991. During her tenure as the women's A.D., Parker was responsible for increasing scholarships for women, moving women's coaching positions from part-time to full-time and helping add softball as an intercollegiate sport. The EMU Women's Athletic Endowment Fund is named in her honor.

Wasik served EMU as an athlete, coach and professor for more than 30 years. She was named  the Mid-American Conference women's tennis coach Coach of the Year in 1983-84, then again in 1986-87. Wasik also coached the EMU volleyball team from 1977-79.
