Men's Track Completes Action at Hillsdale Gina Relays

HILLSDALE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team traveled to Hillsdale, Mich. for the Hillsdale Gina Relays, held by Hillsdale College. The Eagles set multiple personal bests as they prepared for the Outdoor MAC Championships held May 10-12 at Central Michigan University.
Chris Scott placed third in the 400-meter dash in 48.82, while Josh George set a personal best in the 800-meter run with a 1:58.38 finish, good for third place. Harry Dixon took second in the 1,500-meter run with a 3:55.58, while Ian Hancke and Cole Sanseverino each set personal bests in the same event. Hancke took fourth in 3:48.28, while Sanseverino placed 11th with a 3:50.34. Warren Witchell also set a personal best in the 5,000-meter run with a 14:55.06 finish and David Papenhagen completed the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.26 finish, good for fourth place. Fontaine Holland placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles, with a 55.22 time, while Cody Chabola took fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:43.43. Nick Petro set a personal best in the steeplechase with a 9:06.44, good for seventh place, while Daryl Smith did the same, taking eighth in the steeplechase with a 9:07.32.
In the field events the Eagles were successful as well. Max Babits and Joe Tesner finished 1-2 in the pole vault. Babits had a jump of 16-feet and 6.75-inches for first place, while Tesner 16-feet and 4.75-inch jump was a personal record, good for second. Arron Davis and Anthony Bradley took first and second in the triple jump with a 46-feet and 11.50-inch and 43-feet and 9.25-inch leaps. Davis' jump was a personal record. Keith Williams also set a personal best in the shot put and hammer throw with a 51-feet and 8.50-inch toss in the shot put, while he tossed 148-feet and five-inches in the hammer throw. Senior Erik Myyra placed third in the hammer throw with a 172-feet and nine-inch toss. David Papenhagen placed fifth in the decathlon for EMU scoring 5,939 points, a personal best.
"Despite wind, rain and cold conditions we had personal bests in most event areas this weekend,” remarked head coach John Goodridge.
Eastern is in action for one more meet prior to the 2012 Outdoor MAC Championships. The Eagles will head to Ann Arbor, Mich. to take part in the Len Paddock Invitational Friday and Saturday, May 4-5.
