EMU Women's Tennis Team Falls to West Virginia, 5-2

Eagles win fifth and sixth singles matches

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (EMUEagles.com)— The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team won just two singles matches in falling to West Virginia, 5-2, here Friday, March 16, at the WVU tennis courts.
 
The Eagles dropped the doubles point and then lost the first four singles matches before EMU freshman Daphne Friedrichs defeated WVU's Catie Wickline, 6-1, 6-3.  EMU's Marcela Rivero then won by default at No. singles for the second and final EMU point.
 
“This was the worst performance of the year for us,” EMU Head Coach Ryan Ray said.  “WVU was hungrier to win today.  We need to get better at everything soon.”

1. Mary Chupa/Ikttesh Chahal (WVU) def. Miriam Westerink/Nino Mebuke (EMU)  8-2
2. Veronica Cardenas/Emily Mathis (WVU) def. Mariya Toncheva/Georgia de'Lisle-Tarr (EMU), 8-4
