EMU still tied for first place in MAC West
MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) —The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team's four-game winning streak came to an end Friday afternoon, Oct. 5, with a 1-0 loss to Ball State University. The Eagles (7-4-1; 4-1-0 MAC) fall into a first place tie in the Mid-American Conference West Division with Central Michigan University, while the Cardinals (6-4-3; 3-1-1 MAC) retain their third-place seed.
Redshirt freshman Jenna O'Dell had a busy afternoon, facing seven shots on goal and stopping six. The only shot she did not save ended up going down as the game-winner, a 72nd-minute goal from Maimee Morris. Eastern Michigan's offense was unable to provide much support, managing just a pair of shots on BSU goalkeeper Aubrey Buehler.
The first half concluded with the Cardinals outshooting the Eagles, 11-0, with O'Dell denying five shots on goal. Action remained tied until the 72nd minute, when Morris fired a shot off the fingertips of O'Dell and into the net.
EMU had several opportunities to knot the score in the closing 20 minutes with a pair of corner kicks and shots on target from freshman Megan Trapp and sophomore Bianca Rossi, but to no avail.
The Eagles wrap up the weekend with a trip to Miami University to take on the top-ranked RedHawks in Oxford, Ohio. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
