EMU Student-Athletes Volunteer to Promote Youth Wellness

EMU partnered with the Guidance Center’s Downriver CARES AmeriCorps program
SOUTHGATE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Four Eastern Michigan University student-athletes volunteered with the Guidance Center's Downriver CARES AmeriCorps program to help encourage global youth service.
EMU women's basketball standouts Desyree Thomas and Olivia Fouty, along with EMU football players L'Shane Bynum and Kory Neal were among the athletes who volunteered.
Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is an annual worldwide campaign that celebrates and mobilizes the millions of children and youth who improve their communities each day of the year through service and service learning.
EMU athletes volunteered and helped teach sport techniques in basketball and football. Other activities during the day included: painting murals; creating blankets; making get-well-soon cards; crafting garden décor; children's yoga; participating in public safety drills; and learning about wellness at the nutrition stations.
