Eagles fail to win a point on the day
MIAMI, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team was unable to upend the No. 61 ranked Florida International University today, Feb. 28, as the Eagles emarked on their first of two matches this week in the state of Florida.
EMU was unable to earn a point against the southern powerhouse, as EMU was shoutout in both singles and doubles competition. With the loss, EMU drops to 6-6 on the season, while FIU improves to 4-5.

In singles action, Marcela Rivero played in the Eagles closest match of the day at the No. 5 spot, falling 7-6 (3), 6-4. She battled the Panthers' Maria Spenceley closely, battling deep into the second set, before ultimately falling in the match.
EMU came out flat in all three doubles matches, losing each of the the No. 1 and 2 matches 8-3, and only managing one point in an 8-1 No. 3 doubles loss.
Miriam Westerink battled FIU's lone ranked player, No. 88 Liset Brito, at the No. 1 singles slot. Westerink was unable to go swing for swint with Brito, being downed 6-2, 6-1.
The Eagles will have a couple days off before taking back to the courts for a matchup against Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla., on March 2.
