Women's Track Opens Indoor Season with Local Competition

The Eagles take on Toledo and Detroit for their first meet of the 2011-12 season
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team will open its indoor season this weekend by hosting a triangular meet featuring fellow Mid-American Conference foe, the University of Toledo, as well as the University of Detroit-Mercy.
Competition is set to begin Friday, Dec. 9, at 4 p.m. at Bowen Field House, located on the campus of Eastern Michigan University beginning with the field events. Leading off will be the long jump, weight throw and pole vault followed by the triple jump, high jump and shot put. Following the field events, the track events will begin at 6 p.m. starting with the short-distance events. The 60-meter run will start the track events at 6 p.m., and the conclusion of the meet will be the 4x400-meter relay at 7:45 p.m.
Scoring for the events will be as follows: The top-six will earn points in the individual events with first place garnering seven points, second with five, third with four, fourth with three, fifth with two and sixth earning one point; however, only two women per school can earn points in the scoring. In relay events, the top-three teams will earn points with only the top team per school eligible for a score. The top team will earn seven points, while second place takes five and third earns four.
Admission for the meet is free. This event will be the only meet the Eagles will participate in, until 2012, when EMU returning to action Friday, Jan. 13 for the Akron Opener.
