Derrick Gragg Elected to Huntsville-Madison County Hall of Fame

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Athletics Director Dr. Derrick Gragg has been selected for induction into the Huntsville-Madison County (Ala.) Athletic Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for April 12 at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Ala.
Gragg, now in his fourth year as the director of athletics at EMU, is a native of Huntsville and attended Lee High School where he was a varsity letterwinner in football, basketball and track and was a two-time All-City football player. He was named to The Huntsville Times All-Decade Football team for the 1980s.
After graduating from Lee High School in 1988, Gragg went on to earn four varsity football letters at Vanderbilt University. He graduated from Vanderbilt in 1992 and was a member of the Southeastern Conference All-Academic Team in his senior year.
After completing his undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt, Gragg went on to work in the athletic departments at his alma mater, the University of Missouri, the University of Michigan and the University of Arkansas before becoming EMU's 11th athletic director, Feb. 21, 2006. He completed his master's degree in Wayne State University in 1999 and earned his doctorate at the University of Arkansas in 2004.
Since taking over the reins at EMU, Gragg has seen the Eagles capture 16 Mid-American Conference team championships as well as winning the prestigious Reese Trophy, which is awarded annually to the top overall men's athletic program in the MAC, in 2006-07 .
Gragg was nationally recognized for his leadership in 2008-09 after receiving the Black Coaches and Administrators (BCA) Administrator of the Year Award at the BCA National Convention and Expo Awards Banquet, May 29, 2009, in Indianapolis, Ind.
