EMU Administrators and Coaches Set for Special Event

“From the Playing Field to the Front Office” presentation is Sunday, Jan. 17

YPSILANTI, Mich. ­(EMUEagles.com) — Six members of the Eastern Michigan University Department of Athletics will be part of a “town hall” style forum during Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration Week on campus Sunday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. in the EMU Student Center Auditorium.

The presentation, “From the Playing Field to the Front Office” will feature EMU Director of Athletics Dr. Derrick Gragg, Associate Athletic Director Stephannnie Vandenberg, Head Football Coach Ron English, Head Men's Basketball Coach Charles E. Ramsey, Head Women's Basketball Coach AnnMarie Gilbert, and Head Baseball Coach Jay Alexander. MLK committee member Keith Jason will serve as the moderator for the event which is open to the public at no charge.

The six-member panel of EMU athletic department representatives will discuss the challenges faced by African Americans in the field of sports management and will cover other topics such as developing greater awareness of diversity within intercollegiate athletics, information on how students can pursue careers in athletics, and the importance of mentoring in professional development.

The panel will also take part in a question and answer session during the event.
