YPSILANTI, Mich. —
The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team avenged an earlier loss this season defeating the University of Toledo, 58-49, here Wednesday night, Feb. 25, in a Mid-American Conference West Division game in the Convocation Center.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 5-23 overall and 3-10 in the MAC while the Rockets drop to 5-23 and 3-10, respectively.

For the game the Eagles shot 39.1 percent (18-of-46)  from the field, while the Rockets were 20-of-49 (40.8 percent). The Eagles were able to out-rebound the visitors, 32-29.

Leading the way for the Eagles was redshirt sophomore forward Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) with a team-high 17 points and six rebounds. Junior center Justin Dobbins (Cleveland, Ohio-Glenville) chipped in 16 points and freshman Antonio Green (Inkster, Mich.-Robichaud) added 13.

For the Rockets, Tyrone Kent led two Rockets into double digits, recording a game-high 20 points. Justin Anyijong recorded nine boards while chipping in 10 points.

The Rockets jumped out to an early lead but the Eagles slowly whittled away at Toledo's lead, knotting the score at six as Bowdry drilled a jumper with an assist from L.J. Frazier (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Ypsilanti). The Eagles would take the lead, 8-6, on a Dobbins layup with 15:61 remaining in the half.

EMU would jump out to a commanding lead, allowing the Rockets to score just six points between 17:44-3:34 in the first half to lead 26-12, before a shot from long range would cut the Eagle lead to 11, 26-15 with 1:49 remaining in the frame. Bowdry would drill another basket from Frazier with 1:23 and a pair of charity tosses by Wendale Farrow would give the Eagles a 30-15 lead heading into the lockerroom.

Bowdry hit the double-digit scoring column early with 13 heading into intermission, while Dobbins followed closely behind with eight. For the Rockets, Tyrone Kent chipped in five points in the first half.

Coming out of break, the Rockets would use the next 10:34 in the second half to go on a 26-11 streak and tie the contest at 45 with 8:03 left in the game. Eastern then re-gained the lead on a free throw by Green and the Green and White never trailed from that points, building the advantage to the final nine-points, 58-49.

The Eagles will travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich. Saturday, Feb. 28, to take on instate rival Central Michigan. Tip time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
