Eagles post a 3.083 cumulative GPA through fall 2008 semester
YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The grade reports have been released for the 2008 fall semester and Eastern Michigan University's student-athletes have improved on last year's results, posting a 3.028 cumulative GPA for the entire department. The 2007 fall semester cumulative result was a 3.012.
"Our student-athletics continue to amaze me with their outstanding efforts not only in athletic competition, but also in the classroom," EMU Athletics Director Derrick Gragg explained. “We are very proud of the student-athletes' work and will continue to support them as they move forward to the ultimate goal of graduating.”
“Obviously, our staff and student-athletes put in a tremendous amount of time on their academic pursuits and this latest report proves that their hard work is paying off," said Erin Burdis, EMU's Director of Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS). “We are very happy with the results and we expect that success to continue into the future.”
A total of 13 teams (68.4 percent) improved their fall GPA's and cumulative GPA's from Fall 2007 to Fall 2008 and 12 teams posted a 3.0 or better GPA in Fall 2008. In addition, 24 student-athletes recorded 4.0 semester GPA's in Fall 2008.
The golf teams led the way in Fall 2008 with the men's team posting a 3.145 GPA while the women's squad recorded a 3.598 GPA.
Highlights for the 2008 Fall Semester
• Highest male fall 2008 team GPA Men's Golf (3.145)
• Highest female fall 2008 team GPA Women's Golf (3.598)
• Total number of 4.0 semester GPA's 24
• Number of student-athletes above a 3.0 GPA (Fall 2008) 255 (50.9 percent)
• Team with most number of 4.0 semester GPA's 4 - Women's Swimming
• Total number of teams with a 3.0 GPA for Fall 2008 12 (63.2 percent)
• Total number of teams with a 3.0 cumulative GPA 12 (63.2 percent)
• Total number of teams that improved GPA from Fall 2007 13 (68.4 percent)
• Total number of teams that improved cumulative GPA from fall 2007 to fall 2008 13 (68.4 percent)
