, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team dropped a Mid-American Conference cross-divisional match-up Thursday night, Feb. 12, as the Bulls of the University at Buffalo downed the Eagles, 58-49, at the Convocation Center.
 
EMU drops to 3-21 (1-9 MAC) with the loss, while UB improves to a conference-best 17-5 (9-1 MAC) with the victory.
 
Redshirt sophomore Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) turned in a team-high 11 points and nine rebounds in the loss, while Rodney Pierce registered a game-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting for the Bulls.
 
Buffalo wasted no time showing why they hold the best record in the MAC, as the Bulls started the game on a 10-0 run until Bowdry split a pair of free throw to make it 10-1 with 16:18 remaining in the first period.
 
EMU faced a 34-24 deficit at intermission after shooting just 36 percent in the first half on 9-of-25 shooting from the field, while the Bulls shot 50 percent on 13-of-26 shooting from the field.
 
The Eagles managed to cut UB's lead to four with 13:21 remaining in the contest, as senior Zane Gay (Olivet, Mich.-Olivet) connected from downtown to make it a 39-35 game. Gay finished with six points on 2-of-5 shooting from the field.
 
The Bulls would go up by as many as 13 in the second half, as a hook shot in the post by Vadim Fedotov put the Eagles down, 49-36, with 8:23 remaining in the game.
 
Junior Justin Dobbins (Cleveland, Ohio-Glenville) tallied 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, while freshman L.J. Frazier (Ypsilanti, Mich.-Ypsilanti) scored nine points on 3-of-10 shooting from the field.
 
The Eagles will be back in action Sunday night, Feb. 15, when they travel to Bowling Green, Ohio for a MAC cross-divisional tilt with the Falcons of Bowling Green State University. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Anderson Arena. In their last meeting, the Eagles rolled to a 78-68 win over the Falcons in Ypsilanti behind a game-high 26 points from guard Carlos Medlock (Detroit, Mich.-Murray Wright), who also tied a career-high in points in the victory.
