Eastern Ends Weekend with Winning Ways

Xu, Rivero close out Invitational with victories

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –  Eastern Michigan University women's tennis junior Xu Chang (Beijing, China) and freshman Marcela Rivero (Santa Cruz, Bolivia-Saint George) each finished a solid weekend of singles competition at the Wolverine Invitational Sunday, Oct. 4, by taking the consolation finals of their respective flights.

The story of the weekend was sickness and injury for the Eagles, but Xu and Rivero overcame it and were able to capture impressive victories. Chang defeated Marquette's Christina Ruiz in dominant fashion with 6-0 and 6-1 victories, while Rivero won her match by default

“I was very pleased with Chang and Marcela's performance this weekend,” said EMU Head Coach Ryan Ray. “This is a very difficult tournament, and to finish with only one loss each is a strong performance. The priority for this week is to get everyone rested and healthy, and start to prepare those that will be selected to compete in the ITA Regional in a couple weeks.”
