Newcomers Lead Way for Women's X-Country

Eagles finish sixth in the 13-team field at the Detroit Titan Invitational

NORTHVILLE, Mich.—Led by a pair of freshmen, the Eastern Michigan University women’s cross country team opened the 2008 season at the Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invitational Saturday, Sept. 6. The Eagles finished 6th in the 13-team field.
 
Freshmen Rachel Hollinger-Janzen (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) and Natalie Webb (Allen Park, Mich./Woodhaven) were the top finishers for the Eagles. Holliner-Janzen took 24th place, running a time of 19:06 for the 5K course. Webb was close behind, finishing 29th and running 19:12. Lauren Quaintance (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) was the next Eagle across the line, finishing 60th with a time of 20:19. The fourth runner to cross the line for the Eagles was a Hope College transfer, Jacqueline Ellis, who ran 21:03, good for 64th. Junior Megan Flewelling (Grand Blanc, Mich./Powers Catholic) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles, finishing 68th and running the course in a time of 20:44.
 
The Eagles will travel to Three Rivers, Mich. for the George Dale Invitational hosted by Western Michigan University.
