Eagles go winless on the second day of competition
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—The Eastern Michigan University tennis team struggled in day two of the Bronco Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan University. The Eagles went 0-2 in both singles and doubles on Saturday here at Sorensen Courts.
“"We really struggled with the basics today, especially serves,” said head coach Ryan Ray. “This was definitely the difference in winning and losing in the singles matches. We weren't able to get any rhythm going in doubles due to missing the primary shots. We'll regroup and go at it again tomorrow."
In singles action, freshman Marcela Rivero (Santa Cruz, Bolivia-Saint George), who won both her matches yesterday, was defeated in the Brown Singles semifinal match against Marquette’s Maggie Wilson. She fell behind, losing set one 6-2, but bounced back to claim a 6-4 victory in the second. The third set was tight, but she was unable to walk away with the win, losing 10-7.
In other singles action, senior Joanna Woo (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey Collegiate) lost in two to Olga Elkin of West Virginia, 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles, Woo and Rivero teamed up for two matches, falling to WVU’s Elkin and Cardenas, 8-1. In the second match, they were blanked 8-0 by Petrovych and Meghoufel of Indiana State.
The third and final day of action resumes tomorrow at 9 a.m.
