Eagles win both singles matches on day two of Gopher Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.— The Eastern Michigan University tennis team won two out of three singles matches on day two of the Gopher Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 13, here at the Baseline Tennis Center.

Freshmen Karina Ahuja (New Delhi, India-Modern School) and Marcela Rivero (Santa Cruz, Bolivia-Saint George) each collected their first collegiate singles wins. Ahuja defeated Katrina Eromin of the Air Force Academy in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 10-8. Rivero defeated Erica Dobson of Gustavus-Adolphus, 6-3, 6-3, to collect her win. The freshmen duo paired up for two sets of consolation matches, losing both.

"It was good to see Karina and Marcela get their first college wins today,” said head coach Ryan Ray “I'm sure they will have many more in their careers. We were flat, and made too many errors in our first doubles match, however, our basics were much sharper in the second match."

The third and final day of the Gopher Invitational resumes tomorrow with one round of singles and doubles.
