Eagles Open Fall Play

Two freshmen and a senior compete for the Eagles in Minnesota
"We played some very good opponents today, our freshman got the chance to get their feet wet in college tennis and I've found some bright spots to take from today's matches,” said head coach Ryan Ray. “We will continue to develop and look for some wins tomorrow."
The Eagles sent three athletes to the invitational, one senior and two freshmen. EMU opened up the first round of singles and doubles, going winless in both.
In the Minnesota doubles flight, freshmen Karina Ahuja (New Delhi, India-Modern School) and Marcelo Rivero (Santa Cruz, Bolivia-Saint George) fell by a score of 8-3 to Louisiana State University’s Whitney Wolf and Hannah Robinson. In the Golden doubles flight, Joanna Woo (Winnipeg, Manitoba-Vincent Massey Collegiate) teamed up with Iowa’s Jennifer Barnes, losing by one, 9-8 to Chandler Kleinpeter and Kylie Adamek of LSU.
In the Vikings singles flight, EMU’s Ahuja lost in two sets, 6-0, 6-2, to LSU’s Megan Falcon, who is currently ranked No. 15 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll. In the consolation round, she fell in two, 6-1, 6-3 to Lynne Poggensee-Wei of Iowa.
In the Timberwolves singles flight, Rivero lost in two, 6-3, 6-2 to Allison Majercik of Iowa. Rivero then fell to Jackie Sperling of Minnesota in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 in a consolation quarterfinal match.
In the Twins singles flight, Joanna Woo lost 6-4, 603 to Abby Buxton of Nebraska. She then took on Alyssa Palen of Iowa State, falling in two sets, 6-3, 6-3.
The Eagles will return to action tomorrow for two rounds of doubles followed by one round of singles.
