EMU Picked Fifth in MAC Football Poll

Eagles receive 80 points in voting by the MAC News Media Association
DETROIT, Mich. — The Eastern Michigan University football team was picked to finish fifth in the Mid-American Conference West Division by the MAC News Media Association. The annual preseason poll was released Tuesday (July 29) at the conference’s 2008 football media day held at Ford Field.
The Eagles received 80 votes in the annual poll with Central Michigan selected first in the West Division with 207 points followed by Ball State (168), Western Michigan (143), Toledo (98), EMU (80) and Northern Illinois (60).
Bowling Green was chosen by the MAC News Media to win the East Division title with 206 points while Miami was a close second at 202. Buffalo was chosen third in the East with 145 points followed in order by Kent State (137), Temple (120), Ohio (119), Akron (78).
A total of six schools received first-place votes. In the West Division, Central Michigan totaled 29 of 36 votes with Ball State receiving five and Western Michigan two.
In the East Division, Bowling Green earned 17 first-place votes with Miami gaining seven and Buffalo three.
A total of six teams received votes for the winning the championship game between the winners of the West and East Divisions. Central Michigan led the way for overall first-place votes with 24 with Ball State gaining five, Bowling Green four, and Buffalo, Miami and Western Michigan one each.
Eastern Michigan opens fall training camp Wednesday when freshmen report followed by the veterans and upperclassmen on Thursday, July 31. The annual EMU Photo/Media Day is set for Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Rynearson Stadium.
The Eagles are set to open the 2008 season at home in Rynearson Stadium Thursday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m. against non-conference foe Indiana State.
