2008 team looking to encourage support and ticket sales

YPSILANTI, Mich. — In an effort to raise support and awareness for the upcoming 2008 football season, the Eastern Michigan University football team will be participating in the EMU Football Call-A-Thon for the entire month of June. Student-athletes will be calling over 10,000 alumni, donors and local businesses to encourage them to purchase tickets for the upcoming season.

Members of the 2008 team are taking turns calling for three-hour increments (5-8 p.m.) every Monday and Wednesday during the month of June. It is the first time that an EMU team has participated in a call-a-thon.

The call-a-thon is just one of many new marketing initiatives in an effort to average the NCAA mandated 15,000 fans per home game. Calls will be made to anyone who has graduated from EMU in the past 10 years who are still in the surrounding area, as well as donors and local businesses. The team and university are trying to establish more interest in EMU football and bring larger crowds to Rynearson Stadium.

In addition to the call-a-thon, there are several new initiatives to encourage ticket sales. Season ticket prices have been lowered and start at $45 for adults and $15 for children. Individual game tickets are $9 for adults and $3 for children. Season ticket holders will also be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a trip for two to travel with the EMU football team to take on Maryland, Sept. 20. The trip includes travel, hotel and game tickets. The winner of the trip will be announced at the 2008 home and season opener against Indiana State, Aug. 28.

EMU is also starting a charity ticket program this season. If fans cannot attend any games, but would still like to purchase tickets, the EMU Athletics Department will donate them to non-profit organizations, youth groups and local schools as part of the charity ticket program. Fans can purchase tickets for this program at the group rate of $3, if they are willing to donate.

The Eagles will open their season with a home contest against the Indiana State University Sycamores Thursday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. After that game, the Eagles will play in Rynearson Stadium four more times during the 2008 campaign.
