Powell hit his first of two home runs in the third inning, a deep shot over the left-field wall that put the Eagles up 3-0. Oakland battled back in the bottom of the fifth, capitalizing on two EMU errors and two hits to score three runs and knot the game up at 3-3.
Jeff Davis (Avondale, Ariz.-Westview) led the sixth inning off with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error by third baseman Scott Sexton. Ivan singled up the middle for his second hit of the day, allowing Davis to advance to third and later score on a Jim Gulliver (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) groundout, putting the Eagles on top 4-3.
Oakland answered in the bottom half of the sixth, scoring four runs on four hits to take a 7-4 lead. After a scoreless seventh and eighth, the Grizzlies were just three outs away from handing the EMU its third straight loss.
