COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team closed out the regular season Sunday afternoon, April 20, with competition at the Lady Buckeye Invitational. The Eagles finished in seventh, totaling a 950 (312-328-310) for the three rounds. Kent State won the 12-team invite with an 885 (294-299-292), which was played on the par-72, 6,228 Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio. Sara Brown from Michigan State won the individual title with a 216 (70-73-73).
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team closed out the regular season Sunday afternoon, April 20, with competition at the Lady Buckeye Invitational. The Eagles finished in seventh, totaling a 950 (312-328-310) for the three rounds. Kent State won the 12-team invite with an 885 (294-299-292), which was played on the par-72, 6,228 Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio. Sara Brown from Michigan State won the individual title with a 216 (70-73-73).
Six Eagles competed at the invite and three finished within the top 40. Senior Catherin Fortin (Beauceville, Canada-Polyvalente St. Francois) led the team yet again as she scored a 236 (77-83-76) and tied for 22nd. In 112 career rounds Fortin is averaging an EMU record 76.8 strokes, including a career-best 74.8 strokes during the 2007-08 campaign.
Junior Courtney Aili (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) posted a 237 (78-81-78) for a tie for 25th while classmate Stephany Fleet (Dewitt. Mich.-Dewitt) carded a 241 (82-80-79) in 35th. Freshman Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) finished 41st with a 243 (77-84-82) while Marjorie Thuot (Joliette, Ouebec-Therese-Martin) added a 245 (80-88-77) in 49th place. Rounding out the lineup was redshirt freshman Melissa Spalding (Monore, Mich.-Monroe) with a 258 (91-86-81) in 68th place.
The 2007-08 regular season may be over but the Eagles have a short break before beginning the postseason. Eastern Michigan heads to the 2008 Mid-American Conference Championships next weekend (April 25-27) which will be played on the Brickyard in Indianapolis, Ind.
