RIO VERDE, Ariz. – The Eastern Michigan University women’s golf team carded its lowest round of the weekend to move up five spots to finish in fifth place Sunday, March 9, here at the highly competitive Rio Verde Invitational. The Eagles, who were in 10th place after 36-holes, fired a 297 in the final round of the three-day tournament for a 909 (303-309-297) at the par 72, 6,613 yard Quail Run Course.

Notre Dame won the event, as the Fighting Irish finished with an 11-over 875. Texas Tech finished second with a 893 and Minnesota placed third with a three-day total of 894. UND's So-Hyun took individual medalist honors with a four-under 212. Notre Dame's Kate Brophy came in second with an even-par 216.

Junior Courtney Aili (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) finished as the lowest scoring Eagles in a tie for 10th place with a 224 (73-75-76). Senior Catherine Fortin (Beauceville, Canada-Polyvalente St. Francois) shot an even-par 72 during the final round to finish tied for 17th with a 227 (77-78-72). Junior Stephany Fleet (Dewitt. Mich.-Dewitt) managed a 228 (76-78-74) to tie for 21st place.

Freshman Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) notched a career-best 231 (77-79-75) for 31st and Stephanie Bevington (Ossosso, Mich.-Owosso) shot a 247 (85-80-80). Junior Paola Sanchez (Bogata, Colombia-Cedar Springs) withdrew from the final day.
