Eagles Finish Second at MAC Championship

KENT, Ohio — The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team finished its 2008 season at the Mid-American Conference Championship, hosted by Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, March 30. The Eagles’ bid for a second straight conference crown fell short, as the Golden Flashes took home top honors with a 195.675. EMU closed at second with a 193.800 followed by Central Michigan (193.675), Northern Illinois (193.375), Western Michigan (192.500), Ball State (192.100) and Bowling Green (192.025).

The Eagles’ bid for a second straight conference crown fell short, as the Golden Flashes took home top honors with a 195.675. EMU closed at second with a 193.800 followed by Central Michigan (193.675), Northern Illinois (193.375), Western Michigan (192.500), Ball State (192.100) and Bowling Green (192.025).
The Eagles were led by senior Jolene Worley (Orlando, Fla.-William R. Boone), junior Duyen Zu Vuong (Ottawa, Ontario-DelaSalle) and sophomore Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifield). Worley, selected as the MAC Senior Gymnast of the Year and Gymnast of the Year at the annual awards banquet Friday night, also picked up All-MAC second team honors after three top-six finishes in individual events as well as a second place finish in the all-around.
On the vault, EMU was lead by Worley, Vuong and Grigg, each tying for fourth place with a 9.800. Senior Jennifer Charlebois (Oshawa, Ontario-Eastdale Collegiate) finished her career with a 9.700 on the uneven parallel bars, tying for eighth as the top performer for the Green and White.
Worley paced the Eagles on the balance beam, tying for fourth place with a 9.800. On the floor it was a passing of the torch for EMU. Competing in her final meet as an Eagle, Worley tied for sixth with Grigg, who has enjoyed a successful sophomore campaign for the Green and White.
Finishing in the top-10 in the all-around was Worley, Vuong and Grigg. Worley’s 39.000 was good for second place while Grigg’s 38.350 put her in eighth, and Vuong rounding out the group in 10th with a 38. 250.
The Eagles finished the regular-season and the MAC Championship in second place, behind Kent State University.
