OPENING MAC PLAY: The Eastern Michigan University women’s tennis team look to end its four-match losing streak as it opens the 2008 Mid-American Conference portion of their schedule Friday and Saturday, March 21-22. The Eagles will host a pair of nationally ranked opponents in Bowling Green State University and Western Michigan University. Both matches begin at 1p.m.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: The No. 56 Falcons, of head coach Penny Dean, are riding a school-record 11-0 winning streak in dual competition. Their most recent win came was a 7-2 decision against UC San Diego. The Eagles lead the all-time series with BG, at 25-9, including winning the last eight consecutive matches. The Eagles most recent win came last season, April 20,2007, when EMU edged the Falcons 4-3.

The Broncos are the three-time defending regular season Mid-American Conference Champions. WMU, of head coach Betsy Kuhle, is currently ranked 74th in the nation and is 6-7 on the season. In their most recent match, the Broncos were blanked by No. 28 Michigan, 7-0. The Broncos lead the all-time series, 28-8, versus Eastern.

FRANKOWSKI, MAC POW, PART DEUX: Senior Vanessa Frankowski earned her fourth career Mid-American Conference Player of the Week nod March 19. Frankowski was perfect a perfect 2-0 in singles and doubles play, March 12, against instate rival and Big 10 Conference foe Michigan State University. At the No. 1 singles spot, she defeated Christine Bader in two sets, 6-3, 6-4. At No. 1 doubles, she teamed up with Tina Bestehorn to defeat Bader and Whitney Wilson by a score of 8-7.

BATTLE OF THE GREENS: The Eagles dropped a 5-2 decision to Big 10 Conference foe Michigan State March 12. Leading the way at the No. 1 doubles spot were seniors Vanessa Frankowski and Tina Bestehorn. They teamed up to take down Christine Bader and Whitney Wilson in a thrilling match, winning on a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-3).

In singles, it was once again Frankowski leading the way. At the No. 1 singles, she ended her three match losing skid and deafeted Bader in two sets by a 6-3, 6-4 score. At the second set of singles, it was Aditi Krishnan picking up the second point for the Eagles. She defeated Manon Noe in two sets, 6-4, 6-3.

CINCINNATI CANCELLED: Head coach Ryan Ray has announced the match versus the University of Cincinnati that was cancelled on March 8 and reschedule for March 29 has officially been cancelled.
