, Fla. The Eastern Michigan University baseball team closed out its four-game series with the Florida Atlantic University Owls with a 24-3 loss here today at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla. The Owls used explosive third and fourth innings in which they scored nine runs each to build an insurmountable 18-1 lead over EMU.
     
Florida Atlantic pounded out 26 hits in the win to improve to 5-3 overall while the Eagles drop to 0-10 on the year.
     
A bases loaded walk by Brandon Kloess allowed Steve Bradshaw (Lapeer, Mich.-West) to cross the plate, giving EMU the early 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning.
     
The Eagles’ lead would not last long as the Owls offense exploded in the third. FAU batted around the order and tallied three home runs in the inning; including two from Daniel Cook to take a 9-1 lead.
     
FAU padded its lead in the fourth with grand slams from Nick Arata and Nick Criaris, tacking on nine more to increase their lead to 18-1.
     
EMU scored two in the eighth off a Jacob Rhodes (Belleville, Mich.-Ypsilanti) single bringing in Todd Graves (St. Mary's, Ohio-St. Mary's) and Zack Leonard (Canton, Ohio-McKinley).      

The Owls added four more in the bottom half of the eighth, highlighted by a three-run homer by Troy Bubley to round out the scoring at 24-3.
           
The Eagles will be in action again Friday, March 7, when they travel to Knoxville, Tenn. For a three-game series. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m.
