Eagles Fall to No. 20 SDSU

EMU holds Aztecs to six hits
SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The Eastern Michigan University softball team hung tough, but fell to No. 20 San Diego State University, 3-0, today at SDSU Softball Stadium. Freshman Jaclyn Caro turned in a solid performance on the mound, giving up only six hits while striking out three on the evening.
The Eagles are now 4-8 on the season, while San Diego State improves to 12-4.
EMU fell behind 1-0 in the first inning and were never able to catch the Aztecs. SDSU put another run on the board in the third inning before adding another run in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the victory. The Eagles totaled four hits on the evening, compared to just six for the Aztecs.
Leading the way offensively for the Green and White was Heather Giroux, who went 2-for-3 from the plate. Heather Han and Lindsay Ritz accounted for the other two hits for EMU. Caro picked up the loss on the mound, falling to 2-4 on the year. Despite the loss, it was a solid outing for the freshman, who pitched a complete game. Caro allowed six hits and three earned runs, while fanning three.
The Eagles are back in action tomorrow when they begin play in the San Diego Classic, being hosted by San Diego State University and the University of San Diego. EMU will play James Madison University at 11:30 a.m. and San Diego at 7 p.m. More information about the tournament can be found by clicking here.
