Madeleine Pilchard named Swimmer of the Year for third consecutive year

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Eastern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team placed third at the Mid-American Conference Championships, totaling 575 points over the four-day meet.  EMU had six athletes garner All-MAC honors, led by three-time Swimmer of the Year Madeleine Pilchard.  Pilchard was also named Senior Swimmer of the Year.
     
Pilchard and Alissa Ricard were named First Team All-MAC, while Ashley Durand, Leeza Moser, Hannah Burandt and Becky Renkola were named to the Second Team.
     
Ohio University totaled 679.5 points, winning the Championship meet.  Toledo totaled 605.5 points en route to placing second.  The Eagles finished third, followed by Miami, Buffalo, Bowling Green, Akron and Ball State.
     
Ricard placed seventh with Moser finishing in eighth place in the 200 backstroke.  Ricard clocked in with a time of 2:03.50 and Moser hit the wall in 2:05.34.  In the next race, the 100 freestyle, Pilchard set a new pool, MAC and MAC meet record with a time of 49.02, bettering her preliminary time of 49.42.  It was also an ‘A’ cut time.  Catherine Lee Ha finished with a time of 51.14 to finish in fifth place.
     
In the 200 breaststroke, Durand took third with a time of 2:16.06.  Teammates Chelsea Allard (2:22.22) and Sheila Carson (2:22.66) finished sixth and seventh respectively.  Moser continued to swim well on the evening, placing fourth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.25.  Renkola placed fourth in the three-meter dive, accumulating 275.80 points.
     
In the final event of the Championships, the 400 freestyle relay team of Ricard, Lee Ha, Hannah Burandt and Pilchard ended the day with a victory for the Eagles.  The foursome set a new pool, MAC and MAC meet record hitting the wall in 3:20.43.
