Eagles in Third Place After Second Day

Two record setting performances propel Eagles
Day 2 Results.
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Madeleine Pilchard won her third consecutive 500 freestyle race at the Mid-American Conference Championships, as the Eagles sit in third place after the second day of competition. EMU has 198 points, behind Toledo (258.5) and Ohio (225).
Pilchard got the evening started with her victory in the 500 freestyle. The senior completed the race with a time of 4:46.83, which is a new MAC record. It was also an NCAA ‘B’ cut time. Junior Hannah Burandt finished third with a time of 4:50.57, helping the Eagles start the meet on a high note.
Ashley Durand had the best finish for EMU in the 200 IM, placing seventh with a time of 2:06.05. Alissa Ricard had a strong showing in the 50 freestyle, placing fourth with a time of 23.43. Senior diver Becky Renkola took runner-up honors in the one-meter dive, finishing with a cumulative score of 291.60.
The Eagles ended the second day of the championships with a first place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Ricard, Lee Ha, Burandt and Pilchard set a MAC and pool record with a time of 1:32.08, which is also a ‘B’ cut time.
The MAC Championship meet will continue tomorrow, Feb. 22, with the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 400 medley relay and three-meter diving preliminaries. Preliminary competition will begin at 11 a.m., with diving beginning at 1 p.m. Finals will begin at 7 p.m.
