Eagles Go 1-1 at Longwood Lead-off Classic

FARMVILLE, Va. — After winning the first two games of the season, the Eastern Michigan University softball went 1-1 on the second day of play at the Longwood Lead-Off Classic. EMU started the day with a 1-0 victory over Bucknell University before dropping a 2-0 decision to Morehead State University. The Eagles are now 3-1 on the young season.
In the first game of the day against the Bison, freshman Kari Chambers picked up her second win of the season, pitching a complete game shutout. Chambers only allowed five hits and struck out three batters on her way to earning her second consecutive victory. The Eagles scored the only run in the contest in the fourth inning, when freshman Stacie Skodinski reached base on a fielder’s choice. A Jaclyn Caro single advanced Skodinski to second base, who then took third on a wild pitch. Senior Jessica Grant knocked in the only run of the game when she singled. Skodinski and Grant both went 2-for-3 on the afternoon.
The Eagles of EMU then took on the Eagles of Morehead State, but were unable to come up with the victory, losing 2-0. Caro picked up the loss for EMU, giving up four hits and two earned runs. Morehead State pitcher Kari Quinn threw a complete game no-hitter, blanking the Eagles for the win.
The Eagles will conclude play in the Longwood Lead-Off Classic Sunday,Feb. 17, against Big East Conference foe Pittsburgh. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
