EMU picks up second MAC win of the season
YPSILANTI, Mich.- The Eastern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team picked up its second Mid-American Conference victory of the season, defeating the University at Buffalo, 165-129, Friday, Nov. 7 at Jones Natatorium. With the win, the Eagles move to 2-1 (2-1 MAC) on the season.
The 400 medley relay team of Sarah Maraskine (Midland, Mich.-Dow), Shiela Carson (Marilla, N.Y.-Iroquois), Sam Nameth (Mentor, Ohio-Mentor) and Alissa Ricard (Tucson, Ariz-Catalina Foothills) started the evening off with a win for the Eagles. Freshman Samantha Partridge (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel) and Erin Rhoades (Sarasota, Fla.-Riverview) then went 1-2 in the 1,650 free before the Eagles took the top three spots in the 200 freestyle to distance themselves from the Bulls.
Maraskine and Michele Gingher (Boalsburg, Pa.-State College) then took the top two spots in the 100 back before Buffalo won its first event of the evening, the 100 breaststroke. Elisa Torres (Antioch, Calif.-Deer Valley), Leeza Moser (Vicksburg, Mich.) and Lauren Zafir (Wheaton, Ill.-Wheaton) finished in the top three of the 200 fly before Ricard picked up her second individual win of the evening in the 100 free.
Partridge (500 free) and Nameth (100 fly) picked up the last individual wins for the Eagles before the 200 freestyle relay team of Tracy Morgan (Strongsville, Ohio-Strongsville), Carson, Hannah Burandt (Parma, Ohio-Parma) and Maraskine ended the meet with a win.
The Eagles are back in action tomorrow, Nov. 8, when they host Akron and Xavier in a double dual meet. Start time is slated for 2 p.m. at Jones Natatorium.
