Eagles Fall Short at Home

EMU fell 3-1 to Western Michigan tonight at the Convocation Center

YPSILANTI, Mich. – In its first Mid-American Conference home match-up of the season, the Eastern Michigan University volleyball team fell, 3-1 (20-25, 16-25, 25-23, 17-25), to the Broncos of Western Michigan Friday night, Oct. 3, at the Convocation Center. The loss drops the Eagles to 6-12 (1-2 MAC) this season, while the Broncos improve to 12-2 (3-0 MAC) with the victory.
The Broncos came out firing in the night’s opening set, but the Eagles managed to erase a nine-point deficit to make it a 23-20 game. However, the Broncos would rally for two points late to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.
The two teams went point-for-point in the second set of the evening, as seven lead changes led to the Broncos taking a 17-16 advantage. The Broncos would reel off eight-consecutive points to take a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles would bounce back in the third set, as seven kills from senior Jill Wolosiansky (Uniontown, Ohio-Green) made it a 2-1 match. Wolosiansky tallied a team-high 13 kills against the Broncos, hitting .188 on the night.
Senior Hayvolla Leite (Paraiba, Brazil-Indian Hills CC) tallied seven kills and hit .200 in the match, while freshman Ashley Mason (Eastlake, Ohio-Lake Catholic) collected a team-high 21 digs.
The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow, Oct. 4, as the Huskies from Northern Illinois invade the Convocation Center for a 3 p.m. match.
Looking ahead to tomorrow afternoon’s match-up against Northern Illinois, the Eagles will look to inch closer in their all-time series against the Huskies, as NIU currently holds a 19-17 advantage over EMU, dating back to the 1981 season. The Eagles registered a 3-1 victory over the Huskies in their last meeting on Nov. 17, 2008 in Ypsilanti.
