EAST LANSING, Mich.-The Eastern Michigan University tennis team began play at its final fall tournament, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Michigan State Indoor Tennis Facility.

Freshman Karina Ahuja (New Delhi, India/Modern School) went 1-1 in her bracket on day one. In the first round, she lost to Ashley Frey of Toledo in two sets, 6-4,6-2, but bounced back in the consolation match, defeating Chrsitine Strombert of Illinois, 7-6, 6-2.

"In the first round of matches today, when it got late in the first set, we weren't able to capitalize and finish," said head coach Ryan Ray. "If we could have done so, maybe the results could have gone our way. "Karina played a solid consolation match by pulling out the close sets this time around, and Miriam battled as best as she could to pull out a win while bothered by injury, it just didn't happen for her."

Day two sees action in doubles from senior Joanna Woo (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey Collegiate) and freshman Miriam Westerink (Rheden, The Netherlands/Thomas a Kempis).
