Eagles Collect Four Wins on Day Two of the MAC Invite

“We did a good job of fighting for some wins today,” said head coach Ryan Ray. “I like the effort we are giving, but there are still some tactics to work on. Tomorrow gives us another opportunity to go collect more wins."
In singles action, the Eagles took two out of four matches, with freshmen Miriam Westerink (Rheden, The Netherlands-Thomas a Kempis) and Karina Ahuja (New Delhi, India/Modern School) collecting wins. Westerink defeated Northern Illinois’ Martina Schnapp in two sets, both by a 6-3 score. Ahuja won a two set match, defeating Sydnee Bridgar of Miami, 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles play, the Green and White had an identical mark (2-2). Westerink and senior Joanna Woo (Winnipeg, Manitoba-Vincent Massey Collegiate) lost an 8-6 match to Buffalo’s Anna Toia and Smaranda Stan, but came back to win in the seventh place match to Kathryn Friedlund and Lilian Asuaje of Northern Illinois, 8-5. Ahuja and Marcela Rivero (Santa Cruz, Bolivia-Saint George) won their first doubles match of the day, defeating Emily Rogers and Sara McLaughlin of Northern Illinois, 8-5, but fell in the fifth place match to Aleksandra Petrova and Anna Subenkova of Buffalo, 8-2.
The final day of action will begin Sunday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m, with one round of singles.
