Woo Wins Singles Match at MAC Invitational

KALAMAZOO, Mich.-The Eastern Michigan University tennis team participated in day one of the 2008 Fall Mid-American Conference Individual Invitational Friday, Oct. 10, here at Sorensen Courts. The tournament features all nine league institutions that sponsor women’s tennis: Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Miami, Northern Illinois, Toledo and host Western Michigan.

The young Eagles competed in four singles and two doubles matches. Senior Joanna Woo (Winnipeg, Manitoba-Vincent Massey Collegiate) was the lone winner for the Green and White, defeating Nadia Zoubareva in two sets, 6-2, 6-4.

"We're making some progress in the last two weeks, especially in doubles,” said head coach Ryan Ray. “We put ourselves in place to win doubles matches and were starting to execute the basics much better. In singles Miriam and Karina got matched up against a couple of the top players in the MAC, and Joanna stepped up and played a very solid match. As the weekend continues I anticipate a lot more wins."

The tournament resumes Saturday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m.
