Eagles Move to 10-4 Overall Following Lone Star Duals

Redshirt senior Charlie Pienaar and redshirt sophomore Sean Clair both post 4-0 records
Clair and [Charlie] Pienaar both collected major decisions in the opening match against the Air Force Academy to help lead the Eagles to the 20-12 win. After a Derek Gillespie takedown less than :15 seconds into the first period of the 133 pound contest, Clair rattled off 12 straight points and accumulated over two minutes of riding time to cruise to the 13-3 win. Clair, who remains perfect on the year in dual matches, upped his overall record to 22-3, including 14-0 in duals. Pienaar was able to gain control of his match early on by way of two takedowns in the first period before turning the heat up on Jake Devlin in the 184 pound contest, winning by a 12-2 margin.
Also, contributing to the Eagle victory over the Falcons with overtime decisions was true freshman Andrew Novak (New Boston, Mich.-Huron), a 9-7 winner in the 125 pound match and redshirt sophomore Drew Lesko, a 4-2 winner in the 149 pound contest. Senior Cory Mancuso (Brockway, Pa.-Brockway) and true freshman Derek Foore (Wadsworth, Ohio-Wadsworth) also posted winning decisions in the 157 and 174 pound classes respectively.
In the second match of the day against Wyoming, the brothers Pienaar paved the way for a 21-13 win over the Broncos. Redshirt sophomore David Pienaar (Trafford, Pa.-Greensberg Central Catholic) was a 5-2 winner over Cody Chipperfield in the 149 pound weight class while brother Charlie was 3-1 winner over Mikel Hoopes. Mancuso and Clair also collected decisions in the 157 and 133 pound contests while redshirt sophomore David Wade (Beavercreek, Ohio, Beavercreek) picked up his first of two wins on the day, a 4-0 shutout decision over Jason Still in the heavyweight match.
Entering the third match tied at 3-3 after a 7-3 decision from Clair over Terreyl Williams, the Appalachian State Mountaineers took control, winning the ensuing five matches in a row, including two falls, a major decision and a tech fall, taking a commanding 27-3 lead with just three matches remaining. EMU would make the most of it, taking two of those three. Charlie Pienaar was a 2-0 winner over Austin Trotman while Wade was a 3-0 winner over Jared Campbell.
Looking to bounce back from an earlier loss, captain Charlie Pienaar addressed the team prior to the match saying, “I told the guys you need to find a way to win and get the job done, we had to put the loss behind us and focus on what was in front of us.”
EMU would bounce back to take six of 10 matches from the Wolverines of Utah Valley State, winning 21-12. Novak, [Charlie] Pienaar, Justin Brandel (Saginaw, Mich.-Swan Valley) and John McClure (Holland, Mich.-West Ottawa) were all winners by decision while Mancuso would earn a 12-1 major decision over Nate Kearley and Clair a 17-0 technical fall over Logan Wilson.
