Women win on Senior Day

YPSILANTI, Mich.- The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving teams defeated Ball State University today at Jones Natatorium. The women came away with a 167.5-127.5 victory, while the men’s team defeated the Cardinals by a score of 196-95.
 
On the men’s side, the Eagles started out with a victory in the 200 medley relay, with the team of Andrzej Olesinski, Adam Wohl, Ryan Fulkerson and Derick Roe teaming up for the win.  Tyler Groskopf and Dan Kish followed that up with a 1-2 finish in the 1,650 freestyle. Roe and Steven Bowling took the top two spots in the 200 freestyle, while Ethan Crabtree won the 100 backstroke. 
 
Don Ellison came away with a victory in the 100 breaststroke, with Owen Grey capturing the 200 butterfly.  Olesinski won his second event on the day with a victory in the 50 freestyle.  Matt Guinan won the one-meter dive, with Roe winning his third event of the day with a victory in the100 freestyle.  Bowling won the 200 backstroke, and Connor Christie won the 200 breaststroke.  Dave Stefl won the 500 freestyle, with Olesinski winning the 100 butterfly, his third victory of the day.
 
For the women, the 200 medley relay team of Alissa Ricard, Sheila Carson, Madeleine Pilchard and Catherine Lee Ha won the first event of the day.  Erin Rhoades won the 1,650 freestyle, with Hannah Burandt winning the 200 freestyle.  Lee Ha and Carson won their second events of the day when they won the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke, respectively. 
 
Pilchard chalked up her second victory of the day with a win in the 50 freestyle, while Becky Renkola won both the one and three-meter dives.  Lee Ha and Ricard took the top two spots in the 100 freestyle, with Pilchard coming away with a win in the 200 backstroke.  Carson, Ashley Durand and Chelsea Allard took the top three places in the 200 breaststroke, with Leeza Moser coming away with a victory in the 100 fly. 
 
Both teams will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Oxford, Ohio to take on the Miami University RedHawks.  The meet is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 4, at 1 p.m.
