Christensen leads way with two assists and goal

YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team used both a controlling offense and defense to rout Concordia University-St. Paul, today in an exhibition match here at Scicluna Field.
The Eagles out shot the Golden Bears, 29-3, scoring on five of 16 shots taken on goal.
Sophomore Maggie Christensen paved the way for the Eagles, collecting two assists and a goal.
The Green and White got on the board early with sophomore Katie Lozar putting a penalty kick in the back of the net just over eight minutes into the first period of play. The penalty kick was the result of a Concordia hand ball.
EMU would turn it up in the second period, scoring three goals within right minutes. Junior Jessica Lathrop lit up the score board minutes into the second period with an assist coming from Christensen. Only four minutes later senior Sara Schiffbauer would take a Christensen pass and record her first goal of the season. Christensen would increase the Eagles led to 4-0 with an unassisted goal just three minutes later.
Samantha Beard would tack on an unassisted goal seven minutes into the final period on a rebound shot, bringing the score to 5-0 in favor of the Eagles.
The Eagles will kick off the 2007 season next Saturday, Aug. 25, when they play host to Oakland University. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Scicluna Field.
