Eagles honor eight seniors but drop out of first place in MAC West Division
YPSILANTI, Mich. –
The Eastern Michigan University baseball team saw its four-game conference winning streak snapped in convincing fashion as the Eagles fell, 16-3, to the University of Toledo in Mid-American Conference action here on Senior Day at Oestrike Stadium. With the loss, EMU (26-22, 18-4 MAC) falls behind Central Michigan (33-17, 20-4 MAC) in the race for the MAC West Division championship as the Chippewas completed a series sweep of Western Michigan.EMU could not get the bats going against Toledo (24-24, 12-12 MAC) pitcher Ryan France who went six innings allowing only one run on three hits with two strikeouts. Conversely, Toledo tallied 16 runs on 18 total hits with sophomore Sean Hoffman (6-1) picking up his first loss of the season surrendering seven runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings of work. The Eagles also used seven different pitchers in attempt to slow down UT’s offense to no avail.
Eastern was led by junior Mike Boyd who went 2-for-2 while sophomore Andrew Marshall hit 1-for-1 with a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Toledo was led by Josh Colliver who hit 2-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored and Nate McKeon who went 2-for-3 with the RBI and a run scored.
UT took a 2-0 lead getting runs in the first and third innings. The Rockets then sent eight batters to the plate in the fifth inning who tallied five runs on five hits for a 7-0 lead.
EMU got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Derek Lehrman fielder’s choice to score Jeff Davis.
Toledo blew the game open getting four runs in the seventh and five runs in the eighth inning for a 16-1 lead.
Before the game, the team honored its eight seniors, George Biddle, Brian Blackburn, Patrick Dean, Shane Davis, Matt Dillard, Adam Jacobson, Derek Lehrman, and Trumaine Riley for their hard work and dedication to making the program a success.
EMU will host in-state foe Michigan State in non-conference action at Oestrike Stadium Tuesday, May 15, at 5 p.m.
