Eagles Freeze Penguins, 7-0

YPSILANTI, Mich. —The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team earned its second consecutive home shutout, sweeping non-conference opponent Youngstown State University 7-0, here Monday morning at the Chippewa Club.

The win puts the Eagles at 10-8 overall on the year while the Penguins fall to 3-9. The loss today was the fourth on the season for YSU against Mid-American Conference opponents.

Paving the way for Green and White was junior Vanessa Frankowski (Stuttgart, Germany-Albertus Magus Gymnasium), the No. 96 ranked singles player in the country. Frankowski defeated Michelle Fuleky 6-1, 6-1 in singles action and teamed with junior Yana Parfenyuk (Ominsk, Russia-School #64) in number one doubles action to defeat team Thayer/Fuleky 8-1.

Also posting straight set singles wins was Aditi Krishnan (Merkhem,Onterio-Canada-Markvile Secondary School) 6-2, 6-0 over Gina Peretti; Parfenyuk 6-1, 6-1 over Emily Thayer; Emma Czarnecki (Berkley, Mich.Berkley High School) 7-6, 6-4 over Kelly Culbertson and Joanna Woo (Winnipeg, Manitoba-Vincent Massey Collegiate) 6-0, 7-5 over Irene Lane. Junior Tina Bestehorn (Ebenhausen, Germany-Icking Gymnasium) posted a 6-0, 3-6, 10-6 victory over Tanisha Welch.

The Eagles will continue their homestand, squaring-off against MAC rivals Akron and Buffalo this weekend. The Eagles and Zips are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time Friday, April 13.
