Junior Catherine Fortin finishes in second place with a 152
RICHMOND, Ky. – For the second consecutive tournament the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team is walking away with the invitational trophy as the Green and White recorded a 646 (324-322) to win the weather-shortened EKU Spring Invitational here Friday at the Arlington Golf Course. The event was scheduled to conclude Saturday, but it was cancelled due to inclement weather forecasted for tomorrow.
Junior Catherine Fortin fired a second round 77 to finish one-shot off the pace with a 152 (75-77), as Tennessee Tech’s Madison Denman earned medalist honors with a 151. Other EMU scorers included sophomore Stephany Fleet, who tied for 19th place with a 165 (84-81) while fellow sophomore Courtney Aili, tied for 25th with a 166 (80-86). Redshirt freshman Marjorie Thout ended in 29th with a 167 (86-81) and senior Kelly Boogaard recorded a 168 (85-83) for 33rd place.
The tournament victory marks the third championship that EMU has captured during the 2006-07 campaign and the eighth overall title in the program’s 10-year history. The victory is also Eastern’s fourth during head coach Sandy Wanger’s two year tenure as coach.
