Rockets Eliminate Eagles, 4-2

TOLEDO, Ohio- The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team battled the Toledo Rockets in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Championships Friday, April 27, dropping the nearly five hour long match by a score of 4-2.

"We battled for four and a half hours in a very close match, however on many occasions this year we left with close losses, and today was no different," said first year head coach Ryan Ray.

Toledo was able to gain the early advantage by taking two-of-three from the Eagles in doubles action. Laura Fernandez and Flavia Micati posted the lone Eagles win, a 8-6 mark over Jenny Belsky and Sarah Horning.

In singles action Vanessa Frankowski was able to keep her winning ways as she defeated Myriam Cueva 6-3, 6-4 in No. 1 singles action. Toledo would take the second and third flight singles before Tina Bestehorn would post a 6-4, 6-3 straight set victory over Nadia Zoubareva. The Rockets would finish by taking the fourth and fifth matches from EMU, securing a spot in tomorrow's semi-final action No. 2 seeded Buffalo.

Coach Ray and the Eagles finish the season with a 12-10, 4-4 MAC record. The Green and White finished in a three-way tie for fourth place in the MAC during the regular season. Seedings and matches will be announced Wednesday, May 2, for the NCAA Tournament.
