Both men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams compete in the two day event
SOUTH BEND, Ind.- The Eastern Michigan University men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams headed to the campus of the University of Notre Dame, Friday and Saturday, for the Meyo Invitational. The men recorded two victories and five top five finishes while the women recorded one second place finish in the non-scoring event.
Senior Dave Adamek (Ridgeway, Ontario-Ridgeway Crystal Beach) continues to impress in the shot put event, claiming first place with a throw of 57-feet-10.25 inches. The victory marks the second in a row for Adamek in as many weeks. The other men’s victory came by way of the distance medley relay. With a total time of 10:01.36, the Eagles defeated opponents Northern Iowa and Purdue for the top spot.
In the 5000-meter run, junior Josh Karanja (Ottawa, ONT-Nepean) and senior Corey Nowitzke (Monroe, Mich.-Monroe) took fourth and fifth place, respectively with times of 14:12.52 and 14:15.57. Junior Eric Alejandro (Pembrooke Pines, Fla.-Flanagan) placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.02.
Top five finishers in field events included senior Adam Kring (Jeddo, Mich.-Port Huron Northern) in the high jump (4th, 6-feet-11 inches) and senior Matt Pinter (Big Rapids, Mich.-Big Rapids) in the shot put (4th, 55-feet-9 inches).
For the women’s team, sophomore Janice Keppler (Medina, NY-Medina) turned in yet another excellent performance, tying for second place in the pole vault event with a throw of 12-feet-7.5 inches.
The ladies competed in nine of the 18 total events, but did not produce any other top five finishers.
Both the men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams will be in action again next Saturday, Feb. 10, when they host the EMU Classic at the newly re-opened Bob Parks indoor track. The meet will begin at 9 a.m. Come out and support your Eagles!
