YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Eastern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team remained atop the standing after day two of competition at the 2007 MAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships here Thursday night at Jones Natatorium. The Eagles lead with a 257 score ahead of second place Ohio 224 and third place Miami 196. Madeleine Pilchard captured two MAC championships, winning the 500-yard and 50-yard freestyle races, swimming both races in NCAA consideration B times.

Pilchard captured the 500-yard freestyle event for the second year in a row, swimming an NCAA consideration B time, clocking in at 4:51.45. Also posting a B cut time was Ilse Peterson from Ohio with a 4:53.00 time. Akron’s Danielle Beland finished third (4:57.46) followed by EMU’s Hannah Burandt (4:57.68) in fourth.  

Ashley Marion from Ohio posted the top time in the 200-yard IM with a 2:04.38. She was followed by Miami’s Karen Frazier (2:05.33) and Ohio’s Emily Wylam (2:06.01). Ashley Durand (2:07.35), Leeza Moser (2:07.41) and Sheila Carson (2:07.81) finished sixth, seventh and eighth respectively for the Eagles.

Pilchard claimed her third MAC championship of the meet by winning the 50-yard freestyle with a (23.34) time, also NCAA B consideration. Toledo’s Brie Henning (23.55) finished second followed by Margaret Patrick from Miami (23.61). EMU’s Catherine Lee Ha finished fifth with a (23.76) time and Jennifer Miller placed seventh (24.08).

Eagle diver Sarah Chrzanowski claimed the one-meter event with a 293.60 score. Buffalo’s Meili Carpenter posted a 280.70 score and Toledo’s Megan McKinley finished third with 272.00. The top three places all posted NCAA automatic qualifying scores. Becky Renkola finished sixth for EMU with a 257.70 total.

In the day’s final event, the 200-yard freestyle relay, Toledo’s team posted an NCAA consideration B cut with a 1:33.71 just edging EMU’s team of Steph Cholyk, Lee Ha, Miller and Pilchard, who clocked in at 1:33.76. Miami finished third in 1:37.47. 

Swimming prelims for Friday will begin at 11 a.m. with three-meter diving prelims slated for 1 p.m. Finals for day three of the meet is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Jones Natatorium. Events for the third day of competition are 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and three-meter diving.
