Jason Jones and Daniel Holtzclaw named first team, Pierre Walker third team
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Three members of the Eastern Michigan University football team have earned All-Mid-American Conference honors for the 2007 season in voting by the league’s head coaches.
Senior defensive lineman Jason Jones (Southfield, Mich.-Lathrup) and junior linebacker Daniel Holtzclaw (Enid, Okla.-Enid) were both named first-team All-MAC while senior tailback Pierre Walker (Detroit, Mich.-Central) was selected to the third team.
The 6-foot-5, 270-pound Jones, a second-team All-MAC selection in 2006, enjoyed a sensational senior season with 19.5 tackles-for-loss of 67 yards which currently ranks tied for seventh nationally and leads the MAC. His 70 total tackles this past season is the fourth-best on the EMU squad. He played in all 12 games and started in 11, missing one start with a leg injury.
Holtzclaw, a 6-foot-1, 245-pound middle linebacker, led the 2007 Eagles in tackles with 125, which ranks tied for 21st in the NCAA and is fourth in the MAC. Holtzclaw started in all 12 games this past season and had two interceptions and four pass deflections.
Walker, a 5-foot-8, 201-pound tailback, turned in the most productive season of his five-year EMU career when he rushed for a single-season best 839 yards and a single-season-high 10 touchdowns in 2007. He recorded one of the top four-game efforts in school rushing history over the last four games of his senior season. Walker had a career-best 155 yards on 31 carries with one touchdown against Bowling Green (Nov. 9), ran for 151 yards on 33 rushes against Western Michigan (Oct. 27), gained 149 yards on 31 carries with three touchdowns against Central Michigan (Nov. 16) and gained 93 yards on 22 carries with three touchdowns at Toledo (Nov. 3).
