TOLEDO, Ohio – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team gave a valiant effort, but it was not enough as the Eagles bowed out of the 2007 Mid-American Conference Tournament with a 3-0 (23-30, 30-32, 29-31) setback to third-seeded Miami University in the semifinal round here at the SeaGate Centre.
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team gave a valiant effort, but it was not enough as the Eagles bowed out of the 2007 Mid-American Conference Tournament with a 3-0 (23-30, 30-32, 29-31) setback to third-seeded Miami University in the semifinal round here at the SeaGate Centre.
The RedHawks move on to face either Ohio University or Kent State University Sunday, Nov. 18, in the MAC Championship game at 1 p.m. The Bobcats and Golden Flashes will play later tonight for the berth in the tournament finale.
Senior Becky Reenders (Grand Haven, Mich.-Grand Haven) closed out a stellar season with 12 kills and four total blocks on the night. Senior Abby Reenders (Grand Haven, Mich.-Grand Haven) notched nine kills and 15 digs and sophomore Victoria Randolph (Cincinnati, Ohio-Mt. Notre Dame) added nine put-aways and 14 digs.
Senior Kate Sulewski (Ottawa Lake, Mich.-Bedford) closed out an exceptional career with 40 set assists, seven digs, three total blocks and two kills. She finishes the year with 1,489 set assists, the second most during a single season at EMU, and 5,474 assists in her career.
Three Miami players total double-digits in kills led by Alex Ratcliff who finished with 15 kills and a .400 (15-3-30) attack percentage. Carli Reihman posted a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs, while Emily Schroeder finished with 10 kills, 31 set assists and seven digs in the victory.
For the match the RedHawks hit .255 (58-17-161) compared to .140 (48-26-157) for the Eagles.
Eastern Michigan wraps up the year with a 20-14 overall record and an 8-8 mark in conference play. The record was a seven-game improvement over the team’s 2006 record when the Green and White finished at 13-17. Also, with yesterday’s 3-1 upset victory over No. 2 Western Michigan, the Eagles reached the 20-win plateau for the ninth time in the program’s history.
