Eagles ink four high school standouts in early signing period
YPSILANTI, Mich. — Eastern Michigan University head men’s basketball coach Charles E. Ramsey has announced another strong recruiting class with the signing of four top high school players to national letters of intent in the early signing period for 2008.
Joining the Eagles next season will be: Daniel Barnes, a 6-foot-2 guard from Oak Park High School in River Forest, Ill.; Antonio Greene, a 6-foot-3 guard from Dearborn Heights Robichaud H.S.; Branden Harrison, a 6-foot-8 wing forward from Milby H.S. in Houston, Texas; and Kamil Janton, a 6-foot-9 center from Bartlett H.S. in Hanover Park, Ill. Both Barnes and Janton played for one of the top summer AAU programs in Illinois, the Illinois Wolves.
"We are extremely excited about this recruiting class," Ramsey said. "All four players bring a lot of talent and fill needs for our program and they are outstanding young men both on the court and in the classroom."
Barnes averaged 17 points, four rebounds and three assists last year to help lead Oak Park to a 23-6 record. He made 43 percent of his field goal attempts and 34 percent of his three-point attempts. He was an honorable mention All-State pick and was an all-conference selection. He participated in the 2007 Reebok U. Top 120 All-American Summer Camp. His high school head coach is Al Allen.
Harrison has been ranked as one of the Top 20 players in Houston. He was an honorable mention All-State selection as well as a second-team All-District pick last year. He averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks and shot 56 percent from the field as a junior. In the summer of 2007 he played for the Houston Select AAU team and was the Most Valuable Player in the Silver Division of the Las Vegas adidas 64 AAU Tournament. Harrison's high school head coach is Jim Duffer.
Janton averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks while shooting 59 percent from the field as a junior. He was an All-Area selection and an honorable mention All-State pick. His high school head coach is Jim Wolfsmith.
Greene was named honorable mention All-West by The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press as a junior last season. He averaged 18 points, six rebounds and four assists as a junior and is expected to be one of the top players in the state of Michigan as a senior in 2007-08. He was a first-team All-City selection last year and has been a first-team All-Mega White Conference selection the past three seasons. His high school head coach is Vernon Crump.
