Medlock scores team-high 16 points

YPSILANTI, Mich. The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team won a non-conference tilt, 72-55, against the visiting Radford University Highlanders here at the EMU Convocation center Sunday. The Eagles are now 1-1 on the season while the Highlanders fall to 0-2.

Junior guard Carlos Medlock (Detroit, Mich.-Murray Wright) led the team in scoring with 16 points. Midway through the second half, he took over the scoring, producing 13 of Eastern’s 18 points.

The Eagle offense saw eight different players hit the net, including five in double figures. Sophomore center Justin Dobbins (Cleveland, Ohio-Glenville) put up 14 points to go along with eight rebounds.

"No. 1, I thought we had a great team effort," EMU head coach Charles E. Ramsey said. "We had some guys step up and get quality minutes, more so on the defensive end. Anytime you get five people in double figures you’re doing something right."

The Highlanders were led by junior guard Kenny Thomas who scored a game-high 19 points. Sophomore Joey Lynch-Flohr notched in 14 points for the visitors.

The two squads changed leads several times throughout the first 15 minutes of the first half. Neither team had more than a five-point lead, but the Eagles broke out on a 12-7 run with five minutes remaining in the half. The Eagles went into the locker room with a slim 29-28 lead at the half.

The beginning of the second half saw the Green and White and the Highlanders continue to exchange leads but the Eagles broke loose from the Highlander reins with 14:37 remaining to run away with the game, stretching their lead to as much as 17 before the game was over.

The Eagles will hit the road for the next three games. Their next contest will be against Oakland University Sunday, Nov. 17, at 6 p.m.
