Junior finishes 11th in 3,000-meter steeplechase final
SACRAMENTO, Calif.
– Eastern Michigan University junior trackman Corey Nowitzke (Monroe, Mich.-Monroe) finished 11th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase here Saturday in the NCAA Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the A.G. Spanos Sports Complex. He was the seventh American in the race and earned All-American honors for 2006.With the 2005-06 collegiate season now completed, Nowitzke is scheduled to run the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the USATF National Senior Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. in two weeks.
Nowitzke was one of three EMU men’s athletes that competed at this year’s NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship. EMU junior David Adamek (Ridgeway, Ontario-Canada-Ridgeway Crystal Beach) came up a little short in his effort to make the finals in the shot put competition with a best effort of 59-feet-00.25 inches to finish 15th in the preliminaries Thursday (June 8). The top 12 advanced to the finals.
On Wednesday (June 7) EMU teammate Adam Kring (Jeddo, Mich.-Port Huron Northern) leaped 6-feet-8.75 inches in the prelims of the high jump to finish 28th, missing a chance to advance in that event.
Nowitzke qualified for the 3,000-meter steeplechase finals by running a 8:41.09 clocking in Wednesday’s prelims to finish eighth. The top 12 runners in the steeplechase advanced to the finals.
