Women Claim Runner-Up Showing at MAC Outdoor Championships

Eagles’ senior Patrice Beasley named Most Valuable Performer

TOLEDO, Ohio – Soggy and rainy conditions did not slow down the Eastern Michigan University women’s track and field team which finished runner-up at the 2006 Mid-American Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship here Thursday-Friday (May 11-13) at the University of Toledo’s UT Track.
Senior Patrice Beasley (Romulus, Mich.-Romulus) came up with a superhuman effort, taking part in four of the Eagles’ five individual titles. She won both the 100 and 200-meter events and also was part of championship efforts in the 4 x 100-meter and 4 x 400-meter relay teams. Joining Beasley on the winning 4 x 100-meter relay squad, which clocked in a UT Track record time of :45.45 were Ashley McCullough (Dayton, Ohio-Colonel White), Bria Woods (Akron, Ohio-East), Lintera Harvin (Virginia Beach, Va.Salem).
The other three runners on the 4 x 400-meter team, which ran a UT Track-record time of 3:40.85,were Chrystal Dooley (Westerville, Ohio-Westerville South), JaQuae Jones (Massillon, Ohio-Washington),and Woods. Both EMU relay times also qualified the Eagles for the NCAA Regional championships.
Chrystal Dooley (Westerville, Ohio-Westerville South) was the other EMU winner, capturing the 400-meter hurdles in a UT Track and an NCAA Regional-qualifying time of :58.51.
Akron ended up winning the team title with 103 points with EMU second at 103, Ball State third with 97,Kent State fourth at 89.5 and Western Michigan fifth with 85.5 points. Rounding out the field were Central Michigan (60), Bowling Green (52), Miami (50.5), Toledo (45), Northern Illinois (35.5), Ohio (35) and Buffalo (25).
Other top finishes from EMU competitors Saturday came from Andrea Wheeler (Suffolk, VA-Lakeland), Kemba Johnson (Kingston, Jamaica-St. Andrew), Woods, Kallie Williams (Dexter, Mich.-Dexter), Lauren Snell (Medina, Ohio-Medina), and . Wheeler finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in :14.23 while Johnson was fourth in the triple jump at 39-feet-7.25 inches, Woods was fifth in the 400-meter dash in :54.13, Williams was seventh in the 5,000-meter run in 17:09.83 and Snell finished sixth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:36.07.
Williams started the Eagles off with a strong fourth-place finish in the 10,000 meters in a 36:16.27 clocking Thursday (May 11) night. Friday (May 12) McCullough turned in a runner-up finish in the long jump with an NCAA Regional-qualifying leap of 20-feet-10.5 inches.
